Todd Hetherington, our future CEO, was a part-time agent who had a very slow desktop computer and a fax machine. A graduate of the U.S. Military Academy at West Point, he was still in the army at Fort Belvoir, Va., and had a young, growing family to care for. He understood the importance of building relationships and worked hard helping military families find a place to live. He did very well at that, and after military service, focused all his energy on growing his business. That was 1989.
